Julia Kröpelin’s artistic process draws from an inner archive of snapshots of the immediate world surrounding her. The central theme of her artistic work is the leitmotif of experienced movement in both the real and imagined worlds. The movement enclosed within the image creates a temporal moment that allows the process of imagination to drift into an inner world of ideas, to the edges of conscious perception, lending the works an ephemeral quality. In a fragmenting visual process, she deconstructs the motif into its elements in order to reassemble it, layer by layer, through drawing and sculptural techniques, into a new narrative. In dialogue with the (exhibition) space, the work merges drawing and sculpture into a cohesive whole. Her practice moves fluidly between drawing, sculpture, and installations.
